At once a study, in stunning contrasts with bring-you-to-your-knees hot buttered tones, Mz.Chawls operates in a sonic time capsule possessing the assurance of Inez Foxx, the vulnerability of Tammi Terrel, and the smoldering intensity of Betty Wright. Her rich voice harbors classic soul influences, while birthing an original, contemporary and memorable sound. Critiques and fans alike rave as Now Magazine voted her 2008 R&B artist of the year and the single Silly Happy Wild climbs to number one on OTA Live/ HipHopCanada “Megacity Countdown".

Daughter of jazz/blues singer Salome Bey, struts onstage; her band connects and grooves out some bluesy rock, deep funk and hot buttered soul.  With an EP out and a full length on its way, you’ll be sure to hear more about this ferocious and unabashed performer setting stages ablaze.

She’s been featured in a range of compilations, including collaborations with the Butta Babees’ The Entrée EP and accompanying music video (Universal), Phem Phat’s Honey Drops (Universal), Rap Essentials (Beat Factory), The Best of Bounce (Jig Saw), the international collection, Urban Noize and recently on the soundtrack for the film, When Moses Woke (Itoti Productions) which premiered on Bravo! Television. In 2004, Motion graced the stage at the Canadian Urban Music Awards with a stellar performance, aired nationally on CBC Television. Her career highlights include opening for artists Mos Def, Wyclef Jean, Nikki Giovanni, Jill Scott, The Last Poets, The Roots, and Talib Kweli. She’s shone in appearances sharing the stage with Canadian-bred stars The Rascalz, Tara Chase, Jully Black, k-os and Kardinal Offishal.

“Her voice is suave steel that will make you feel the funk of life, the blues of existence, the rap of rhyme and the neo-soul of resistance.” - George Elliott Clarke, Governor General Award Winning Poet

Isis has never been one to follow the beaten-path, and her latest project is no exception. Having started her career at the age of 19 touring across North America as an emcee, Isis later became an integral part of the party-starting duo, Thunderheist.

During this period, Isis also branched-out to make high-profile appearances on The Jimmy Kimmel Show (alongside MSTRKRFT and Noreaga) and the legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York.

Now, drawing inspiration from legends such as Deborah Harry, Betty Davis to the Doors, Isis is preparing her first solo release; a selection of songs as eclectic as they are well rounded. It is clear that after years on the mic, Isis continues to add her unique style and flair to everything she touches!
