DJ L’Oqenz is a powerful force to be reckoned with. Her passion for music and undeniable skills on the turntables have made her a sought after commodity at home in Toronto and abroad. A true lover of music, she is not confined to one genre. Spinning everything from Hip Hop to Jazz - L’Oqenz has the ability to fuse them all effortlessly.

She has toured across Canada, the United States and the UK, and has shared the stage some of the most respected artists in the business including Zaki Ibrahim, Motion, Jean Grae, Bahamadia, K’naan, M1 (Dead Prez), Prince Paul, Maseo (De La Soul) and Kool Herc.

2006 – 2008 L’Oqenz flexed her multitasking skills by working as Artist Manager and Executive Producer to Zaki Ibrahim. Presently, L’Oqenz is completing a production/art project under the alias NiteOwlNaps and she has been committed to bettering her community by setting aside time to teach and fundraise for various organizations in Toronto.

Niteowlnaps – Niteowlnaps is an alias I picked up due to my nocturnal habits. Basically, it’s L’Oqenz past 2/3am… when I really get busy! After spending a long period of time in solitude, I learned a lil sumthin, sumthin about myself.... I see colour and sounds. www.myspace.com/niteowlnaps

Over the past month, there have been a TON of great Michael Jackson tribute mixes but I had to do it! I had to create my rendition of how MJ's music made me feel. I wouldn’t feel complete if I missed the opportunity to express the impact his music had on my life. Growing up, I remember mimicking him in the schoolyard and to this day I can confidently say, no matter the club or the event, I have ALWAYS included MJ's music in my mix. He was one of the most influential entertainers in my life and our time. July 1st, 2009, it would all come full circle. Canada Day - Dundas Square was the most prolific day in my DJ career. Not only was it an opportunity to celebrate MJ’s music and life with 30,000 Torontonians, but the company of Deejays I was blessed to be in was RIDICULOUS!!! I was proud to share the stage with, Starting From Scratch, SON OF S.O.U.L., Mensa, Sean Sax & Jason Palma. Each Deejay crafted their own brew and we rocked the crowd through sunshine and rain. On top of all this, I was asked to close out the show which was a huge honor! My nervousness just before dropping the needle on the record would prove how important that moment was for me. Overall, the only word I can use to sum up the evening is magical. Everyone who was involved did an AMAZING job. Rated X entertained the audience with an MJ influenced dance routine and Wan Luv & Big Norm held it down as the Masters Of Ceremonies. I wanna thank Zoe Johnson - Sound Engineer extraordinaire, Che and Jesse for finding me 24hrs before the event! And to the entire Manifesto crew… JOB WELL DONE!!! Toronto is on the map.
